ABOUT

Who is Marco van der Weijden?

Marco van der Weijden

I'm a venture builder, board director and strategic advisor, based in Zurich. I'm building a human-led, agent-supported venture studio for frontier-tech moonshot companies in Switzerland, working alongside their founders as an operating partner. I take on independent non-executive and Swiss resident director appointments, and work with founders, executives and boards on AI, strategy, governance and program delivery.

My mission is to help build the Swiss technology companies that enable humanity to flourish, on Earth and beyond, by standing beside those who build them, as a steward, a director and an advisor.

CAREER

More than twenty-five years, from delivery to the boardroom.

I began in telecommunications, delivering large programs, then established and ran the Swiss business of an IT consultancy. Since 2015 I have worked independently, as an advisor, a fractional executive and a company director. I have founded or co-founded three ventures, and I established the Swiss subsidiary of a Dutch technology consultancy group. Today I'm building a venture studio for frontier-tech companies in Switzerland.

HOW I WORK

Accountable for the outcome, not just the advice.

Companies grow when someone builds the structure that lets them grow: the entity, the programs that actually deliver, the processes that survive the next hire, and the governance that holds up when it's examined. I've spent more than twenty-five years doing that work, the last eighteen of them also as a registered officer of Swiss companies. What a board, a founder or a Swiss office gets from me is someone who has been personally accountable for the outcome, not just for the advice.

My work sits between two disciplines that are usually held by different people: Swiss corporate governance, and the delivery of technology programs. A board I join gets a director who can read a system architecture, a regulatory analysis and a set of statutory accounts. I use AI tools and agentic workflows daily in my own advisory, governance and delivery work. It is the combination I bring to the ventures I help build.

01

Growth

I established the Swiss subsidiary of a Dutch technology consultancy group and grew it eightfold in revenue and sevenfold in headcount, from five people to thirty-five, in three years, with the client base going from one to six.

02

Projects and processes

Multi-million-franc transformation and billing programs in telecommunications, delivered across vendor and country lines, and dozens of complex projects on time and on budget across my career.

03

Governance and compliance

I built and operated a KYC and anti-money-laundering framework to Swiss standards, and I have prepared and presented compliance, risk and audit matters to a board.

04

The office itself

Registered officer of five Swiss companies since 2008, three as a board member and two as managing director. I served two from incorporation through liquidation to deletion, one as designated Swiss resident director from day one.
